Gas pedal not working?
Asked by Marleigh107 Jan 05, 2017 at 01:15 PM about the 2003 Dodge Neon SE Sedan FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My car was driving fine and then all of a sudden
the gas pedal seemed to stop working and my car
was acting like it was going to die. The gas pedal
was all the way to the floor with no acceleration..
dad changed the fuel pump but it's still doing the
same thing.. it will try to start but won't fully start
up. Seems like it's just not getting gas through...
Any ideas what it could be?

its a new pump but you will need to check the pressure, did dad change the fuel filter ? spray a bit of of starting fluid in the throttle body to see if it will try to start or start.

Yes I think he changed the fuel filter too. No, the check engine light isn't on. We ran a computer to see if it would pull up any codes anyways but it didn't.
You could do a fuel bleed down test, Build up pressure on a fuel pressure gauge with the key on, then turn it off, and see IF and how fast the fuel pressure gauge drops. This would indicate leaking fuel injectors. I'm seeing if I can come up with anything else in the mean time.
Did your dad put in a new fuel pump regulator also? Check the fuel pump pressure, it should be like 47 lbs.
Ok, I am suspecting the fuel regulator. Like I said just verify by checking the fuel pressure.

My dad said it's the fuel regulator. Does that mean I have to get a new fuel pump too? Or just the regulator?
Boy, how did you know I was on? No you would not need a new fuel pump since it is already new. But the regulator is on top of the fuel sending unit, so what ever was done to get at the fuel pump, gona have to do it again. So what was the fuel pressure?
