transmission issue
Asked by samirian Feb 02, 2013 at 11:54 AM about the 2003 Dodge Neon SXT Sedan FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
In my 2003 dodge neon sxt... the transmission input and output sensors have been changed about 6 months ago. this solved the issue of the vehicle not shifting out of first gear and the speedo started working again. Now the vehicle is showing symptoms of the same issue I believe, speedo is floating above then below actual speed on acceleration and levels out at correct speed verified by flashing speed trap signs on the road. when the speedo floats by over 15 mph it downshifts but only during heavy acceleration.I will replace the input and output sensors myself again, I was wondering if another part is the reason the sensors are failing? possibly how often this will occur?

before you replace them again, just check the connections first, one may nave come loose

there is a shift solenoid on the outside front of the transmission that goes bad. I can't remember if it was the 1/2 or the 3/4 but easy fix. it is directly below the air cleaner box.

A Dodge is simply shit in pretty wrapping. Bottom Line
Did anyone actually find out what the problem is? I’m tired of putting money into my 2005 dodge neon and nothing fixes it!
My daughters car was stuck in limp mode and the speedometer stopped working. There is a 20amp fuse called Etax under the hood. Speedometer started working and then is sends the signal to the tranny and runs do smooth again. Again this was the fuse not the relay. It’s a yellow fuse.
