WINTERIZE IT. Use a good coolant/antifreeze. Get some washer fluid meant for freezing conditions. Get a good battery. Get some good winter wiper blades. All weather tires. Upgrade motor oil for cold weather protection. My folks were from N. Minnesota and spent plenty of time tooling around in negative temps in old Fords and Chevys, as long as you take care to winterize the car you'll be fine.

If it is hard to start get a block heater. 6 hour commute? Sounds like the hell I used to have.
