Strong Gas smell 2012 Kia Optima

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Noticed a strong gas smell inside the car and under the
hood. Pulled the cover off the engine and noticed the fuel
pump area was wet and the small area on top of the
pump had fuel in it. What would cause this?  Not driving
the car obviously due to it being a fire hazard but need to
know why this is happening.
