What is best engine oil and filter for kia-rio 1.4 EX automatic in Ireland (cold weather).

I was thinking of changing oil and filter on kia myself. some people think thinner oil than recomended for ticking noise on cold engine etc. would be better :

You could but most of the time it never works or it works for a short period of time. There is of host of oil filters and oil additives that you could use. You say you are in Ireland, I'm not familiar with the products that are sold there. So my recommendation would be to use a named brand oil filter, oil and additive to the car.

If they have it there use Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer just leave out one quart of oil from oil change and add.

They all are pretty good but I prefer Fram oil filter and castrol oil but it is just a personal preference.
