02 DAKOTA

Asked by Owlman1 Oct 04, 2011 at 06:06 PM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It wont start on first try. Only on the second try will it start. Then if it sits for 15 minutes or so it will only start on the second try again. If I were to keep starting it with no wait time in between it starts everytime.

Not a very good explanation, but if I'm understanding right it sounds like the anti-drain back valve has broken or deteriorated... letting the fuel in the line drain back into the tank. Try turning the key forward (to ON) and waiting a few seconds before trying to crank. Maybe even try it twice before trying to crank, you need to build the pressure back up in the fuel rail before it will start
