My 2.5i engine in my 2012 Subaru Outback is shot after 60000 miles. The only replacements i can find are 2.5L. Will the 2.5L fit and function properly with in my 2012 ouback with a CVT?

The engine will need to be the same series and meet the same smog requirements as your old engine. 2.5 Liters does not tell us what the engine is as there have been many different versions of their 2.5L engine. What happened to the old engine?

I believe the head gasket blew. A member of my household drove it for almost 2 hours with the overheat light on. The air intake manifold partially melted into the engine before it quit.
We had a women tell us the oil light was on but she needed to get somewhere ,,, then the car quit ... She wanted to know where the reset button was located

It's hard to respond to such a naive question... maybe the questioner is pulling legs? "i" means injection, as opposed to "t" for turbo. "L" is simply the displacement in liters. So 2.5i is simply a subset of 2.5L 2010-2014 2.5i seem identical, but I'd check carefully in case EGRs or other plumbing vary.

not pulling legs, just trying to become a mechanic on the fly to try to dig myself out of the Subaru hole.
The Subaru hole can be very deep. Getting out may require an excavator and explosives. Good luck.
