No not all 2.5L are belt. In 2012 the outback and legacy went to the FB motor which is 2 timing chains. The easiet way to tell is open your hood if the oil filter is on top of the motor it’s a chain motor. Also the timing cover is metal. If there is no oil filter on top of the motor and there is a black plastic cover on the front of the motor that is a belt motor. In the photo is a FB block with timing chains.

You pick...do you want the oil burning FB engine with the timing belt.............. or the EJ Engine and the timing belt? I'd rather have the EJ engine...... most 2012 Subaru Outbacks have the older EJ series 2 engine....SOHC.....in 2013 Subaru put the FB engine in the Outbacks....it's true that in 2012 they used the FB engines in the Forester...so....yes, there were plenty of 2012 FB engines around with the timing chain.... Subaru...if you're going to make changes... don't cause problems.... the FB engine was the subject of the lawsuit ... causing many issues for people.....
