Question type: General

I have a chance to buy a 2012 Subaru Outback - Base model 2.5 -   100k miles
Are they solid transmissions?   Can you tow a “Tear Drop” camper with that
setup?

How heavy is your trailer? My 15 Forester with manual transmission has had no transmission problems in over 100k miles.

48,700

The 5sp manual trans is a very old (1990) design, and although fun in gears 2-5, shreds clutches in hot starts, as well droning inefficiently at high speeds. It's a fun car at 20- 60mph, but not much below nor above. Fuel eco will be VASTLY less than the CVT, although it might be a safer bet than an 8yr old CVT from the "fragile 2010-2014 era). Towing a trailer with the stick is a guarantee of short clutch life! Do NOT do it!
