why does my car keep overheating?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
i have a 2012 subaru tribeca that continues to overheat after i have changed
the thermostat, radiator and coolant reservoir. i am running out of ideas on
what is possibly wrong with it. i took it to a shop but they couldnt point to one
specific problem they told me it could be a couple different things like the
water pump or heater core so they suggested a new engine but before i spent
that money will like to hear any suggestions

Could be an air pocket , these " shops " should know how to trouble shoot such things without doing unnecessary repairs , sounds like the money you spend there is what they're concerned about .

Beatupchevy how can i get rid of the air pocket to see if its the problem?
A tool you can buy at any parts store, just follow the directions and then you will know if the headgaskets are blown. Or you favorite shop can do it for you.

quick update guys my check engine light came on and it said it was a engine coolant sensor i changed one of the two and it took longer to over heat but what i noticed was my windshield started to fog up on the right side only when it started to overheat what can this mean?
Couple of things, a plugged up AC drain tube, a leaking heater core. Did you smell anything like a sickly sweet smell?
Guru9RJVXK answered 2 years ago
didn't noticed..my rugs aren't wet there's no leaks inside or outside..what does the AC drain tube has to do with overheating or is that a separate problem?
A little note about blown head gaskets, it makes too much pressure in the cooling system and can blow things radiators, coolant recovery tanks, heater cores, water pump seals, heater hoses. Anything that has even the slightest weakness will let go.
