2004 Ford Focus ZTW Electrical Issue
I have a 2004 wagon. I have had major electrical issues ever since I got it.
It was still under warranty when they replaced the entire body wiring
harness. Various other electrical issues since then including taillamps that
the housing melts and fuses with the lamp access/holder to the point where
you have to replace the entire fixture when the light burns out AND almost
every single junk yard part I have tried to find end up having the same
issue I am trying to fix. Also the passenger seat heater had started burning
the foam if you accidentally hit the on/off button and don't notice it's on.
Latest series of issues I have no resolution for. Not sure what it is. A few
weeks ago the headlamps stopped working. Not a fuse or bulb. High
beams toggled on and off, so I decided to drive home on high beams. I
haven't had to use them since the issue occurred and I have been super
short on daylight time so I haven't been able to troubleshoot. One night I
decided I would try to in the driveway in front of the garage with the door
open and lights on (no room IN it due to a mustang project). I went to pull
it back into the street and decided to turn the high beams on. Mistake, as
they have been on ever since and I am unable to toggle them back off. No
matter what I do it's like they are just stuck on. Fast forward a week.
Driving normally on the way home from work. Battery light pops on. I get
concerned I will be stranded, but I am in the middle of Detroit and not a
good place to pull off the road and find somewhere to test the battery.
Make it out of the city and have the battery tested and it's fine. Turn the
car back on light is now off. Fine, I will drive home. Next day comes on
again on my way HOME (not TO work). Stop at an auto parts store to pull
the code, light is off again. Fine, whatever FFF (last two are ford and
focus...). So today on the way to work it comes on again, I think okay I
have gremlins and they are messing with me and if I pull off and try to
finagle a diagnosis it will just call me a liar again. Not this time... I pull into
the parking lot at work and into a parking spot and all the power just snaps
off. Everything dash, radio, windows, locks, everything. But the engine is
still running. I pop the hood, belt is turning, alternator pulley is rotating at a
seemingly acceptable speed. I turn it off, turn the key back over, starts
fine, all electrical working. What is going on?
I am 55 miles from home and need to make a trip another 30 miles farther
in a few hours and I'm afraid to try.
