Perhaps the vehicle's battery has died and is in need of replacement.

Our Lincoln had an issue recently where the local dealership did 2 recalls, then the battery died and the new battery discharged completely over night. The issue is that if you have a Lincoln MKZ with the electric trunk lid, the module that controls the electric trunk lid needs to be reprogrammed with the latest software. The service department has an SSM (similar to a TSB) that they can look up on Oasis in their system which covers this problem. I was charged only 1/2 hour in the service department to accomplish this. My battery had a dead cell and measured only 10.6 volts after charging. I replaced the battery myself using a genuine Motorcraft battery and all is well now.
