what is the switch located under the cruise controls?  It is marked with can/res

I hoped you checked your Owners Manual book or online manual for what Ford says, but I believe it means Cancel / Resume at least that is on my 2007 Escape. Cancel to dis-engage the Cruise control and Resume to get back up to speed with Cruise.
