Can I put smaller tires on?

I have P265/40R22 now. I would like smaller, more affordable tires.  Can I go
smaller? If yes, how much smaller?

I would go to 245/60R18 tires which are a stock size.

Look for stock 18" wheel sets on Craig's List.
