Transmission filter

Asked by Paul Sep 25, 2018 at 08:31 PM about the 2013 Ford Edge SEL

Question type: General

I have a 2013 ford edge and I wanted to know if the
transmission filter ever needs to be changed or are
they good for the life of the vehicle. Any advice
would be appreciated.

Always change the filter. Don't do the flush as they tend to cause problems. If you value your car change the fluid often as it is Way cheaper than a new transmission! Keep an eye on the fluid color. If it turns pale red (pink), brown or black change it!

Unfortunately, your 2013 Edge has no serviceable transmission filter. I'm planning on looking into installing an in-line filter of some sort in the transmission cooler line. It's the only option, it seems. My plan is to drain and fill once a year, which, in my case, is 15-20k miles. It's cheap preventative maintenance compared to the cost of a new transmission.

The 2013 Ford Edge does have a transmission filter. What they mean is that it is an internal filter inside the tranny. You literally have to pull the tranny to change the filter. Stinks!
