Check engine light goes off and on

Asked by Dave Aug 06, 2018 at 12:20 PM about the 2002 Dodge Intrepid SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light will go off and on
occasionally. It shows a cam sensor code, but
sensor is good and all wiring going to it is good.
Could the poss prob be the computer?  Needing to
be reflashed or replaced?

That sounds like one of those intermittent problems that's hard to pin down. If your code indicates cam position sensor, I would just go ahead and replace it. They have been known to heat up and cut out, or set a code, then come back on. They're usually not too hard to reach and I buy them on Ebay for $10. Some people say that's Chinese junk but they all come from China repackaged. So yes, just replace it and have peace of mind for $10.

Done that 3 times with the same result. Engine light comes on randomly and goes off randomly. Car will occasionally shut down while driving, even at 50mph!! Why I'm just thinking of just biting the bullet and getting the computer replaced
