2002 neon Biggs down intermittently while accelerating

Asked by Devin5276 Sep 18, 2019 at 08:54 PM about the 2002 Dodge Neon SXT Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My neon starts up and idles fine warm or
cold but when I'm driving for extended
periods out of nowhere the engine bogs
down and it will not accelerate. I have
replaced the plugs, wires and pack. When it
starts doing this I found out I can shut the
car off and restart it as I'm coasting and
then it will run normal again for a few
minutes. When it acts up I can only feather
the gas to get it going. The RPMs bog down
with the engine so i don't think it's a
transmission issue. It shifts fine. When the
engine runs it sounds healthy. Doesn't use
oil or coolant. I inspected all the vacuum
hoses I saw. I drive the car 40 miles one way
to work. This issue happens like clockwork
almost. I can almost time it when it will start
bogging. Which takes about 25 miles. In that
25 miles the car runs great. Good
acceleration and shifting. Could it be a bad
throttle position sensor maybe.

I had the same issue in my 2010 Dodge Ram, in the foot throttle it’s throws a certain voltage and the sensor at throttle body throws the same voltage back, if one of those sensors goes bad than it’ll drop current and that’s what causes your car to go to limp mode, obviously shutting vehicles off with reboot the system but will happen again, I ended up putting new foot pedal in, take to any dodge dealer ship and they should be able to dig into the brain of the vehicles enough they can watch it graph the current and know if that’s the problem or not
