Yes... I had the same problem. Engine blew up due to lack of maintenance on my wife’s part. I Purchased a good used engine from a salvage yard. It turns out the valve sensors have to have oil compression for the valve train to function properly and the engine to start. Smart mechanics and / or The dodge dealer knows about this issue. Once you have installed your used engine take it to a qualified mechanic or the Dodge dealer to get the engine running. If you try it yourself and or don’t know what you doing you are talking about replacing a starter ( it will burn out and your engine on the restart ) and possible engine damage from friction with no oil pressure lubricating the engine.

GuruVRT33....could you please give me a little more info on the trick to get the valve sensors to trigger properly? I have the car at a shop right now and one of their better certified Master Mechanics is working on it, but he's unfamiliar with the Multi-Air valve setup on that particular motor (1.4l Turbo). I did have an oil leak at the front main seal and bought a complete new oil pump because it has the seal built into it (the oil pump mounts on the front of the motor around the main crankshaft exit)...before he had a chance to replace it, i was driving the car and sitting at a stoplight, the engine threw the serpentine belt (soaked with oil) and the car died. He replaced the belt at my house before i had it towed to his shop, but the car just turns over now, wont start,,,,he hooked it up to the computer, but it says everything is ok except for compression. He's going to replace both the serpentine belt and timing belt and the oil pump and if he could get a headsup from someone in the know about this trick to reset the valve/multi-air system, then i could well be back on the road again just in time for my new job.....i desperately need this car and he's giving me a break on the work...any help would be appreciated!

This is the procedure to start the engine after swap, repair. I have done this myself. I would use the same oil that you use in the engine. 1."Using an oil can with a CLEAN soft tip or similar tool like a NEW plastic syringe, force CLEAN, UNUSED oil into the service port (1). 2. Continue to inject oil until oil flows continuously from the bleed port (2) or until a maximum of 200 mL has been injected."

The intake valves on the multiair II are opened via oil chambers that have release valves controlled by the ECU. If the oil is not present for those chambers, the intake valves will not open. The engine will not start, and you cannot crank the engine fast enough to pump oil to fill those chambers -- you must fill the galley that feeds them by hand then crank the engine to pump oil into those chambers. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a16580674/fiats-multiair-valve-lift-system- explained/
