Well I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ and it won't start.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Well I try to jump start it and it works
sometimes but most of the time it
doesn't. It struggles to start when I'm
jump starting. Every once in a while it
will tell me service theft deterrent
system and sometimes it says
service battery charging system. My
battery voltage will end up at 8v and
then it will jump around 14.2 - 14.4.
So I'm guessing it's the alternator
not the starter?

Sounds like you have a "short" somewhere. Theft deterrent systems aim to prevent the vehicle being entered, started or driven. The actuators used to achieve this are the electric door locks and windows, the starter motor relay, engine management systems, transmission shift solenoids, and an audible alarm. The computer that controls the system monitors input signals from various devices. Switches are located at each door, the hood and trunk openings, and the fuel filler door.
Cars only 2 years old ... Theft systems have a special warrenty ... don't screw with it. Most car insurance comes with free towing ... either have them pick it up or have your on tow take it ther

Security Systems have multiple reasons to lock up motor so it won't start, usually cuts off fuel pump so it will start for a second then engine will cut off.Sometimes it's your ignition is worn or your key.If you have another key try that,it worked on my 2000 pontiac, still working 1 yr later. The key has a resister in it when they get worn they will not get the proper reading then the computer will disable your car.Easiest thing to try is another key if you have one.
