In the ball park for a BMW and looking at a X3 or Mercedes GLK. Is the BMW a good
maintenance free car? How many miles can I go without major problems? Which would
you choose X1, X3, or GLK?

The best thing about BMW is their bumper to bumper maintenance free warranty for 4yrs/50k miles, but after that the maintenace on them is almost everlasting.

Take good care of it, follow the maintenance schedule, and you'll be fine. I'd take the X3 over the X1 or any Mercedes. Mercedes are much more expensive to maintain than BMWs.
My 2004 X3 has 195,000 miles on it. I maintain it well, but it needs a transmission now. That's pretty good for any car. I would definately choose a BMW over Mercedes. (I was a M-B tech in the 90s) Maintance costs are the same, but purchase price is about 10K less. As for X1 vs X3, it's up to your needs when it comes to size and budget.
I have an X3 diesel 2005, recently it's started missing at 2000 rev's has anyone an idea's way?
