Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2012 Pruis V that is burning
over a quart of oil every 1,000 after
doing a oil consumption test at Dealer
Have 130,000 miles and being told
Toyota probably won't fix. I now they
covered previous other year model of
vehicles for same problem. Any advise?

What weight oil do you use and how often do you change it? I would try using the next heavier grade of oil.

0w -20 synthetic. Usually around 6 -7,000. Car has been professionally serviced and well taken car of. Apparently it is a kown problem with this engine after looking at several websites. Looks like the rings where defective on the 2012-2014 motors. Oil consumption test last week at Dealership showed quart and a half per 1,000 mile. Last oil change was a little over 5,000 miles when I started it and was idling rough so raised the hood and happen to pull the dipstick and wasn't showing oil. Had to put 4 quarts in it to get it to full. Only holds 4.4 so dont know how I keep from burning the motor up. Thanks for your help.
