Can you disable the 2013 Accord feature that prevents you from locking you keys in the trunk

Asked by Accordian Mar 08, 2014 at 04:36 PM about the 2013 Honda Accord EX-L

Question type: General

When my wife is with me, she like to put her purse with her keys in the trunk to keep them out of view.  She hates to lug the purse around.
The 2013 Accord will not let the trunk lock with the keys in the trunk.
Is there an option to disable this feature???

While I can't believe I'm reading this, the answer is yes, but it is a very complex security system, not to be fooled with by just anyone, and your talking big bucks to change, I hate to say it but I would have her take the keys out of her purse. I would not do this.

There is a switch to the left side of the glove box that turns the smart key function off to the trunk. Open glove box and look beside left edge of the glove box. Turn the switch to off. It's part of your valet function of your car.

Now that turns it off but not sure if it will let you lock hers in there. Might want to give it a try.

Or another possible solution if she has a lot of other keys on her key ring is to push the little button on side of smart key and release the fob from the hard key. Take smart fob with you and leave all other keys in purse in trunk.

I tried the trunk switch and found that the trunk still pops open with the key fob in the trunk. Thanks, I thought there might be a simple setting I was missing.

OMG!! Thank you so much, stupid Honda dealership had my car the entire day and wanted me to go back for them to "diagnose" the "problem"!

Thanks. Funny story....my trunk on my accord would beep and not close after I had filled it with items from my place. I removed everything but a pair of shoes and still wouldnt close. I read this article and remembered I had hid my extra car fob in some shoes. I searched the shoes and there was the extra Honda fob/key. So if your trunk is not closing make sure you have not left one of your two fobs in the trunk or car!
