how come my transmission has stopped?

this is on a 2001 dodge stratus 3.0. while going 70mpg gears wouldn't change. as if sitting in nuetral. fluid wasn't over filled. showed overage while on side of road. level surface. fluid wasn't burnt. indicated fluid was hot. linkage not damaged. no visible problem or damage. anything to help?

Sounds like a transmission solenoid or perhaps the input or output speed sensor has taken a dump. Have the TCM codes read by a Chrysler dealership with a DRB-II diagnostic scanner and they should be able to help you.
