timing belt

Have a 2013 kia rio lots of miles 110,000.
Wasnt aware of timing belt issue. Car would
crank but not stay running. Had mechanic
take a look and diagnose said timing slipped
a bit ( crankshaft still turning). Called
dealership and over the phone they
automatically said they cant replace the
timing if it slipped i have to buy a new
engine. Is that correct? Its not snapped as i
stated first mechanic said just off as the
engine isnt locked up.

Dealers knows its an interference engine, when the timing belt breaks or slips usually bends the intake and exhaust valves. you could be the 1 person where the engine is okay... I use an endoscope and look inside the cylinder head and chamber and digitally record so I can show the client.. GOOD or BAD
The dealership is telling you need a new motor because it must be an interference engine, and if the timing slipped via timing belt, chances are the valves are wiped out. But you say that it will not stay running which means you might get luck in replacing the timing belt for it to run. I would replace the timing belt and before putting it all back together, do a compression test. That would tell you if there are any bent valves.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to be sure I wasnt getting scammed since I'm a woman. Having it towed to a shop ( not dealership) since the guy was pushy and rude just over the phone.
Doesn't say how often the factory recomends timing belt change.
Does a 2009 Kia Rio have a timing belt
