2013 kia rio, 100k miles, check engine light began flashing after idling like it was going to kill. after about 30 seconds stopped and turned off?

I was in traffic today with the AC on, the car began idling like it was going to kill, I turned off the AC and the check engine light began flashing. As I merged over to pull over the light turned off completely. I would say it was on for about 30 seconds. Any ideas? The solid check engine light has come on 2 times in the past month or so but turned off after about a day.

Have you kept up on the maintenance? hmmmmm? did you know that KIA will give you a free tow to their garage? budget for some service work- and then call them-

My 2013 kia Rio did the exact same thing then the engine just died while I was sitting in Saturday traffic on the expressway in Chicago. Kia replaced the engine.

If engine light flashes, you have dead ignition coil in one cilinder... Not expencive and It’s easy to repair...

I have a 2006 KIA Rio, and I have a known purge valve problem, but it's not affecting the functionality and won't ruin the engine so I've let it slide. (Coded as minor). And it wasn't a constant problem - it came and went only when filling gas. Today after getting gas car started to misfire. Drove home and had it coded and it was cylinder 3 & 4 misfiring. Process of elimination by swapping the coils showed a dead coil. Went to AutoZone and got a replacement coil and here he is running happy again.
