Looking to purchase a pre-owned 2013 Subaru Outback that came from
Montana and wondering if anyone has any experience with corrosion issues
from states that salt the roads in the winter?

I live in SoCal, but, I'm very familiar and have family in Michigan. The key to keeping corrosion down is two fold. Keep your car washed often and garage it in winter. If you are or the former owner do this, it will not be a problem. It's all about condition with used cars. Get a through pre-inspection. Good luck.
By the way, if I were you, I would be looking for a really clean 2011 or 2012 Subaru Outback instead. Why?? Those were the last years for the old EJ25 Series phase 2 engines. They don't have as many oil burning issues, like the newer FB Series engine. Look this up online and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also, the CVT transmission is a gem! Saves money on gas and is plenty peppy for this car. The H6 is a rocket, it does consume a lot more fuel and has the old 5EAT transmission. Completely different gear train. Your choice. Also, the front end is heavier making handling a little different. The H6 is about one and one half seconds or so faster to 60 MPH and a more powerful in the mountains. If you do a lot of mountain driving, you might consider it.
Hi, I lived in MT for many years and I dont think they have anywhere near the rust issues that am am currently seeing in Minnesota, and with one that new I wouldnt be worried. Just ask for good pictures to be sure. Mt does salt the roads, but not to the extent of other places.
