2013 Subaru Outback engine swap

Asked by Robbie Jul 02, 2018 at 08:10 AM about the 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 6 speed manual that burns a lot of oil, I'm planning to replace
with a good used motor, The Hollander interchange list the engine for the CVT
Trans and the Manual as different/incompatible. Does anyone know the
difference? I can buy a used engine from a cvt car for 1/2 the price of a manual

No you cant, can't even swap sti with a wrx because the trans is geared differently, a lot of people complain about the difference but Subarus are very trans sensitive tires have to be within 1/4 inch circumference of each other or you'll ruin your trans that's why if you pop 1 tire depending on the others tread life you need to replace them all and no one like hearing that, they are great vehicles just have they're own set of bs like any other manufacturer

What is the difference? Same 2.5 motor! is it bell housing, Flywheel, HP. I understand the WRX/STI as they are pretty different but this seem's to be the same motor with the CVT/Manual being the only difference
