Asked by Destin Jul 28, 2018 at 01:06 AM about the 2000 Dodge Neon ES Sedan FWD

Question type: Car Customization

So the clutch cable almost snapped was only
Hanging On by a thread literally one little strands of
wire and I replaced it now it won't engage into gear
no matter how loosen or tighten I make the clutch
cable it does not go back into gear in any gears I
turn on the vehicle and I'm in neutral and all five
gears even reverse what is the problem what
happened it was working fine until I open the hood
and was like oh wonder what that popping noises
in my clutch look down there to see that it's frayed
and about to break I hurried and changed it only
part was around available was one from AutoZone
and it has a bolt on it instead of a spring so it's not
auto-adjusting but still does not make sense
anywhere in my knowledge of a Dodge Neon this
car is horrible if you have this car throw it in the
trash because I don't think anybody could help me

Got it to work just took off the plastic piece on the new clutch wire cable there's a part where it goes through the firewall there's a plastic rubber stopper I just completely cut that off give another extra and a playroom since this new style doesn't have a automatic tensioner so was running fine was in 5th gear on freeway going about 85 miles an hour when all of a sudden clutch pretty much went out it would rev up to for 5000 RPMs but not gaining any power what happened?
