The first thing to check is for trapped air in the cooling system preventing proper coolant flow. Read up on how to purge (burp) air from the cooling system for your model, it may take more than one attempt to get all the air out. If that doesn't do the trick check the thermostat again, it may have been put in facing the wrong way, preventing it from working. These two items are the first things to check, if you are still overheating after checking these two, then post a followup.
