How are you going to drive it? Street every day? Higher gears for gas economy. Just tour around a bit? 4.11 or around there, great off the line, low top end, poor mileage. Like James above said, a good 5 or 6 speed with low first and second gears and OD on the top is a great fix, stay stock then. 4.11 gears and a 6 speed will get you 20 MPH? in first, not really good. Great after market stuff to beautify it also.

Only trying to answer the question asked, not give a lecture. He asked a question and not all people want to go fast. Fast is fun yes, and a big block even with a 4:11 type rear end will go fast, just get there faster. If cruising is in mind, that's different than taking it to the strip every weekend. People here ask for opinions, now he has two to pick from at the moment. :-)

The classic hot rod rear end is a Ford 9" which you should be able to buy customized for a Tri 5 car. A Chevy 12 bolt will also handle a lot of power.
