Is using Sportmatic bad?

I just bought a 2013 Kia Soul +. I love it! (I was driving a Kia Sedona minivan for 12 years.) I am having a blast with the Sportmatic transmission as I've always wanted to learn to drive manual. Now I keep reading that it's not good for the car. Is that true? I use it all the time.   :-/

You have paddle shifters on your car don't you? They didn't install this feature unless they were all right to use? I don't think it's a problem at all. I have paddle shifters on my Subaru Outback and use them just fine. Do you mostly use these to slow you down? You cannot upshift faster than the automatic transmission .
