2013 Kia Soul will NOT start

Asked by Kim Mar 09, 2018 at 03:38 PM about the 2013 Kia Soul +

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my 2013 Kia Soul new and never had any problems. The last 2 months the car starts on some days, and won't start on other days. With the key turned over, the lights in dashboard come on and you hear 1 click but it will NOT start. Sometimes you can get it to start by slightly turning wheel over to the right, but as of late that maneuver doesn't even work. Took it in to the dealership who kept it a week and could not duplicate the problem, so told me the car was fine. They ran battery, battery drain, starter and alternator test which all came back with no issues. And just to note, I bought a new battery during this process. The dealership suggested it might be inhibitor switch but since they could not duplicate problem then I would just have to buy the part and have them put it on charging labor to SEE if that resolved my problem and we could keep going through different parts but there were no guarantees. I don't know about y'all, but I don't want to drop thousands of dollars in buying parts just to SEE if that solves my problem. HELP!!

The next time you get one click try starting vehicle and at same time have someone tap on starter with a hammer if vehicle starts starter is bad.

I have a 2014 Kia Soul that stopped starting all of a sudden. Brought the car to Pep Boys and they installed a new battery and the car started fine until the next morning when it did not start. I had the car towed back to Pep Boys for them to diagnose the problem and they stated I needed a new alternator. So after dropping over $700 on a new battery and alternator the car did not start on its own but after I kept trying and I shook the automatic gear shift the car started. This has been the most frustrating thing I have ever encountered with this car. I have 77K miles on the odometer.

I had this same problem at 75000 miles. I had the starter replaced and the problem went away. Now at 104000 it's sitting in the driveway. Cleaned the terminals and still no go. Not sure what I want to do next.

My 2012 soul did the same thing at 75000. The dealership could not figure it out. I took it to a local garage and it did not start for him so he replaced the stater. (Half the price of dealership) then about 2ish years later it started not starting again. This time I took the starter out and had it tested at Napa. It tested good. I reinstalled it and have not had a problem for a year+. I am guessing it's a connection issue or alignment issue. I plan on taking it out and putting it back in if/when it does not start again.

My 2012 Kia Soul would not start yesterday. The dude from AAA could not get it to start, the battery was fine, he tried a bunch of things, etc... He decided that I needed a tow, and it was probably the starter. Right before he was leaving, he had me try one last thing. He said, "put it in neutral and turn the key." My car started right up. Once I got it to the shop, I turned it off, and then tried the same trick, it started right up again. The Kia Soul has a Neutral Safety Switch which you should encourage them to check. Best of luck.

2013 Kia Soul would turnover, but not start. Complete tune up, plugs, ignition coils, crankshaft sensor. Went thru all the relays, and started thru the fuses. 1 bad fuse and when replaced it started just fine. Every time the a/c is turned on the fuse burns out again. Any answers?
