I have a 1966 GTO how can I verify it has the correct matching motor?

The cowl tag shows 01B (Jan2 nd week)
The date code on the motor is L295 (November 29th1965)
The WT code in the front is correct

Your date code tells you it is a motor that is correct for the time period but you did not say what type of motor it is. 1966 GTO's got one of a few versions of Pontiac's 389cid V8. Maybe the sites "jamnblues" identified will help if you do not know the car's history or have any build sheet data. Pontiac went to the 400cid motor by 1968 (same engine, different bore and stroke, lower compression).
