It can be fixed but you may not want to do it. It entails removing your speedometer, disassembling the unit to free up the odometer mechanism, replacing the odometer with a used unit you buy on-line or from a junkyard (you may have to buy the whole speedometer), and reassembling. Cost depends on how much you pay for the replacement but it should be about $50. What broke in yours is a little plastic gear. Age is their enemy because they dry out and begin to loose pieces and gear teeth. At some point they just stop. I have replaced mine twice in my '91 TA.
