It can be fixed but you may not want to do it. It entails removing your speedometer, disassembling the unit to free up the odometer mechanism, replacing the odometer with a used unit you buy on-line or from a junkyard (you may have to buy the whole speedometer), and reassembling. Cost depends on how much you pay for the replacement but it should be about $50. What broke in yours is a little plastic gear. Age is their enemy because they dry out and begin to loose pieces and gear teeth. At some point they just stop. I have replaced mine twice in my '91 TA. If you want to set the new unit at approximately the right mileage, there are instructions available at www.thridgen.com. Go to that site and search for what you need.
The site I told you to got to is" www.thirdgen.org", not ".com". Sorry.
