1999 2.7L engine rotation

When replacing timing chains, engine was turned counterclockwise. Assembled and
started ok. Now engine has a deep knock (like rod or wrist pin). What did I damage
with the wrong rotation?

could have bent the valves but almost sounds like the tensioner didn't disengage on start up. Did you bleed the oil out of the tensioner or replace it with new? Was any of the chain guides broken?? Assume you removed to replace the water pump for a leak.
When I was turning the engine, I did not feel any thing, like it came against anything. Replaced tensioner and set tention. Guides ok. New oil and water pump. The knock is like I said, is deep in the engine, lower #4 cylinder.
