How do I replace the thermostat?

Asked by plvogel Feb 06, 2007 at 02:50 PM about the 1999 Dodge Intrepid ES FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My heater loses heat when not accelerating.  The temperature gauge is occasionally erratic. I suspect it's either debris in the heater core or a bad thermostat.  Wanted to replace the thermostat first. Where is it?  Thanks for your help.

It is located behind the steering pump inside of a plastic casing with a few bolts holding it in place. It has the radiator hose and the as well as your heater line attached to it. Best of luck.
