my manual says I have a 13.1 gal. tank but the emergency light goes on and all I can put in is10.5 gal.

That is because the sensor is set to come on so that you have time to stop and refill before running out completely! Your tank has a reserve of approximately 2 gallons before you start sucking fumes which would cause dirty filters and eventually new fuel pumps..

I agree with you I have gone like 48km but when filled up took 13.2 gal was nervous whole time won't push it like that but was trying to see how far it goes..I just fill up as soon as I get the chance once light comes on. Gotta have gas to operate it anyways.
