Hi Jimmy ... I think your Dakota had a 5.2L V8 MPI engine. Here's the link to a page that will help you decode the rest of the VIN for your truck. I couldn't find info on an RG valve but a quick call to the parts desk of your local Dodge dealer should yield that info for you. Good luck! http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/specs/VIN_decode.htm
^^ that would be good advice if the dodge didn't have 2 V8's that are exactly the same externally 8th digit of the vin is the engine code... in your case Y = 5.2. there is no such thing as an rg valve, do you mean an EGR valve? if you do then no your 98 doesn't have one

justin, who are you refering to about2 v8s?

i was refering to the engine its self and the vehicle tags on and under the hood.
I understand the underhood tag.... but chances are it's not there after 12 years. And as I mentioned, there is no way to differentiate the 5.2 and the 5.9 from the outside without running the casting numbers... that is if you can even see them without removing the engine from the truck.
