why would a 1965 mustang with inline 6 start up fine when cold, but then die when warm and parked for a few minutes?

It starts fine when its cold, but after driven for awhile and restarted while warm it wont start. After feathering the gas it will start and idle good, but once you give it gas it will die. It has a new carb and fuel filter. I even replaced the points and the coil. Any ideas?

It sounds like your carb is starving for fuel. Check your fuel pump and make sure it is pumping fuel into your carb. Also check your floats and fuel level in the carb. Make sure your floats aren't obstructed internally and calibrated for correct fuel level in bowl and last check your jets. May not be calibrated from box or may have gotten plugged from old or bad gas (Varnish buildup using old gas). Hope these suggestions help. I had the same trouble on my 77 Thunderbird. Bad gas. Ended up tearing Holley carb apart and, cleaning everything, and recalibrating it from scratch. Also changed mechanical fuel pump at engine block. I should switch to an electric fuel pump.

my 1988 mustang gt convertible usually runs great but sometimes it idles up and down and will even die. the problem stops when i accelerate but will continue at cruising speed. sometimes it does not happen for days, then when it happens it can last for a few seconds up to a day. i have replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter and egr valve. it feels like a vacuum issue, but i do not think a vacuum issue would come and go like this. i am lost! please help 3 Answers
