1998 Dodge Dakota shuts of when I push in the clutch when slowing down

Asked by Guru9Z99BZ Nov 23, 2020 at 08:24 PM about the 1998 Dodge Dakota SLT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 1998 dodge Dakota SLT with a V8 magnum
RWD and anytime I go to push in my clutch to slow down
with or without hitting the brake my truck will idle real low
and die but if I pump the gas a little it'll stay running my
check engine light is on but the codes are for my speed
sensor and a code that says my gas gauge is messed up
saying I have more gas in my tank than it should hold any
ideas why my truck would do this?

As far as the gas gauge goes, a bent float arm on the fuel pump could cause it to register as overly full. As for the dying and low idle, it could be a few things....slightly low fuel pressure (due to weak fuel pump, fuel filter, or a bad fuel pressure regulator), dirty air filter, dirty mass airflow sensor, dirty or worn out idle air control valve, or a gummy throttle body

Speed sensor can also cause irregularities in idling
