my 98 dakota sport idles at 1500 rpm's several mechanics have told me "there's no way to adjust the idle. is that true??

if there is a way to "idle - down" the rpm's,  is this something i can do???

i can go dn a level road at 50 mph without my foot on the gas.
have to shut it off when at the bankdrive thru cause its idleing so fast and loud !!!

It's hard to diagnose the problem exactly however I have heard of this issue being related to the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) you could also try disconnecting the battery for 15mins then reconnecting then allow the truck to idle for 5 mins this may "reset" your Engine Control Module. If neither of these are an issue you may want to look into the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC).
