My engine is now wanting to shift on my '98 Dodge Durango

Asked by Alana Feb 08, 2020 at 04:54 AM about the 1998 Dodge Durango 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes when I go to accelerate, it won't
shift into the gear. It just keeps reving the rpms
up. I have to play with the petal to get it to shift
and when it does, it jerks really hard. Took it to
the shop and they said it's the 3rd and 6th
cylinder misfiring. Any ideas of fixing this
problem all together. Not just a quick fix

To correct the misfire, I would recommend chaining the spark plug wires, and spark plugs. Also the distributor cap and rotor. If the car still doesn't shift correctly, jerking and not shifting is usually an indication of a transmission issue.
