all electrical gauges and screen shutdown
Asked by GuruLG77W May 07, 2019 at 12:40 PM about the 2013 Buick Verano Convenience FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2013 Buick Verano is in the shop and they cannot figure out what is wrong.
They cannot connect to the computer to get a code for repair. All gauges ie
speedometer, gas, etc, radio, computer screen do not work. Service lights for
just about everything are on...air bag, tire pressure, anti theft parking assist
etc. Any thoughts?

Typically a problem in the charging system. Low alternator output or incorrect output will set off most dashboard warning lights and cause failures in other systems. The vehicle will be driveable until the battery is completely drained. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
Alternator is functioning fine according to the repair shop. We have checked fuses, disconnected the battery etc. Also tried a reset of the Ecm fuse and nothing has worked.
Just wondering if you had found out what was wrong with your Buick we had the same exact problem every part that you describe is exactly what we are dealing with I have read about this for months as Buick is known for this problem. I decided to order a new computer program to my Vin. It's a $150 free shipping I'm going to be installing this when I get home today as far as I could tell this is what they are saying the problem is I will let you know
Please let me know what’s going on. My car did this just know I’m literally crying :(
I have the same issue, exactly. Has anyone figured out the problem yet?! :(
My car did the same and I took it to the Buick dealership and they said my computer module was burned out and that the side detection module was the cause of it due to me letting it go unfixed for so long. Anyway it cost me 893 for the computer module and 654 for the side detection module
I just had the same problem and was told the same thing as Wendie. It seems like this is a common problem because right now they are on back order with no estimated date of more coming in. I was able to find a used one for half the price. At this point I had no choice but to go with a used one and hope it doesn't go out on me again. :/

I had the same problem, car wouldn't start, no power to anything. we unhooked the side detection module is at the rear of the car and it works just fine now

Same problem, no power to instrument cluster, service warnings, car wouldn't start. We unplugged the side detection modules and it started right up and runs fine!
Everyone, my boyfriend took the rear side detection system out. It went bad. There’s two sensors behind the passenger and driver side tires. Behind the bumpers. It’s almost as if they’re glued onto the bumper. Disconnect both of them. Charge the battery, start the car. I have had no problems since he did this. It will cost over 700 to get those sensors replaced.
Huracan_2421 and GuruRVPQR.... THANK YOU!!!!!! I, too, just experienced failure of my 2014 Buick Verano instrument panel, direction blinkers and radio console screen and had a host of "check this and check that" messages show up. I just disabled the rear side detection system modules (right and left) and, voila! The problem appears to be solved! Thanks so much! I can't be happier!
How do you disable them? Mine just did this tonight!
@gutu22y9b ... read my post about the sensors my boyfriend disconnected. Should be good to go. @veranew I’m so happy it worked for you! I was seriously devastated before he figured mine out
Is anyone else car cutting off when you are putting your feet on the gas or the break. If so what was wrong with your car. Please help me. This was my first car and it was horrible so far.
My car jus did this today I hope it's nun serious...
My car also doing this it’s a 2016 and I was turning and it went off and pop back on I don’t know what to do

I'm haveing the same problem except mine is doing it iff an on an I dont have an warning light? I can some time turn on the blinker or hit the window button an everything will shut off for a sec it does this even while driving an then other times it's just fine idk what to do
I was about to replace my ECM and read the post above, I was in all system failure with no hope. Unplugged the rear modules and everything came back on. It is a malfunction of the blind spot monitor, there are some other forums that go to the body wire harness upstream. Who knows.

I have a 2013 Buick Verano and kept getting error messages that the side vehicle detection system needed service every time the car was started. The side detection system (left or right) hadn't worked for months. After starting the car, each time I just cleared the message from the console. Then lately things really started getting weird. Many unrelated diagnostic messages would be displayed and finally the car wouldn't start and nothing was displayed on the console. Couldn't even shift the car out of park. It was as if the car was totally dead, which it was. I disconnected the right rear detection module and the car is back to working order. I still get the side vehicle detection system message but at least the car runs. Eventually I'll disconnect the left side vehicle detection module. It was not that easy to unplug the cable from the module and I ended up breaking the plastic clip that secures the cable plug in place. I had to remove three screws that secure the body panel in place so as to gain adequate access to the module by pulling the panel away from the rest of the vehicle. The side vehicle detection modules are secured to the inside of the lower rear body panels. The three screws are located on the rear of the wheel well. It is possible to get to the module from underneath the vehicle but I couldn't remove the cable plug from that position.

I have the same problem with the Side Detection Module in the bumper. So have people had any problems after unplugging after or with other things .

If you have smaller hands just reach up from underneath at the rear corner of the bumper facia. You will see them glued to the bumper facia in a bracket. Depress the lockin clip and wiggle it off. The problem with the dash gages and monitor systems alerts will go away. These radar modules are not very well protected from weather, water gets into them and they go out, (common known problem). You will still get the side collision alert warning on start up, but it will no longer cause the dash gage and warning alerts problem. Do this soon if you have this problem, if you let it go, eventually the car won't start.

This worked for me. The sensors are behind the rear wheels. You'll have to remove the wheel well cover. You don't need to take the tire off to this but I would recommend it. Once you remove the cover you can look toward the rear bumper and see the sensor and its cord. You'll need a flathead screwdriver to unhook it. I only need to un hook the right one and everything work again. I get the side section system warning when I start it but I'm ok with that because this fix was free. Win.
I have a (new to me) 2013 Buick Verano. Car does not start, and its not the starter and the side assist sensors are disconnected already, so i am suspecting the problem to be the computer or harness, and I'm leaning more on the computer than the harness to be the problem. I am going to order a computer and install, once i get this done, I will update.
