2013 ford expedition acting strange
Asked by GuruYPB8G Mar 23, 2018 at 11:15 AM about the 2013 Ford Expedition EL Limited
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2013 for expedition is possesed!!! Lol
While driving it will drop in to first gear. Rev really
high. I have to pull over and put it in p to fix it. Also
the speedo will drop to 0 and stay there while
driving at speeds up to 70kms. On occasion it will
lose all power completely for few seconds. The
kms to empty will then come up as _ _ _ kms to
empty. And the tire pressure monitor will light up
and sometimes say tire pressure monitor fault. On
occasion the wrench will flash or the check engine
light. When hook up to the computer some low
ampage or low wattage was all that came up so I
bought a new battery. That did not stop the
problems. Has been to ford. They dont know what
the problem is.

I assume the dealership at least pulled trouble codes, if any? Do you know if there were any? You may have more than one problem - the alternator or charging system could be causing the low voltage situation. I don't know if a 2013 model has the battery management system on it, but if it does have that checked as well. The tranny and speedo may be a separate problem - have the TPS (throttle position sensor) and VSS (vehicle speed sensor) checked. In my experience dealerships don't waste time to do thorough testing, if it doesn't indicate a problem on their diagnostic stand, they'll wait until you have a hard (and obvious) failure before replacing a part. If you're under warranty, keep on them until it's resolved. If you're not under warranty, then find a more responsive local mechanic.
I am not very car savy. But the ford mechanic said the computer only indicated some low ampage codes. Which is why he suggested chaning the battery. And yes they seem to not want to try anything until it completely piles up.
All they did it seems is pull a diagnostic code and nothing jumped out other than the low voltage one, but apparently not your problem with the transmission. The OBD system was designed for the emissions system, while it can report SOME transmission faults, it won't by any means report all of them. Because your problem affects both speedometer and transmission, I'd look at the VSS. The dealership probably wants to wait for a hard fault that registers on the computer before preceding. You either have to play the "squeaky wheel that gets the grease" or keep driving it and hope the problem doesn't leave you stranded somewhere. (PS: I'm only throwing out a guess related to the VSS, your problem may be something else entirely, as I can't possibly know all the facts to make an actual diagnosis over the internet.)
Were you able to resolve this problem? We have a 2013 that is doing the SAME thing-- all symptoms same plus seat heaters both front don't work and today the front blower doesnt work...back works. 95000 miles... Shop said we need a transmission....??? I doubt it and ALL same symptoms as yours cant be a coincidence of multiple separate problems at same time.
I been having the same issue as stated above. What did it end up being or what needed to be replaced
try rebooting body control module..take battery cables off and hold them together for 5 minutes.. sounds crazy, but, it worked for me.. trans wouldn't shift correctly and my instrument panel went down.. did need to change battery. problem caused by low voltage.
I have the fix. And after doing this simple thing never had problem again . Call me at 609-805- 1610
What's the fix? My 2013 Expedition does the exact same thing and I'm less than 72,000 on the dash..
Did anyone find a solution to this? My 2014 model is doing the same thing.
My Ford was having the same problems and I took it to two independent service businesses and they did not fix it. I then took it to a Dealer in Tulsa...Fowler Ford and a Kory Whitford quickly diagnosed the problem and they corrected the problem in 3 days and did not charge anything since the Ford was still under 150,000 miles. It has been running perfect for 10 days now.
GuruJ3M4H6 did they tell you what the problem was? My local service guy says it's likely an electrical problem but without a wiring diagram he doesn't know where to start. Any info may help. Thanks!
Ok.... so what was it GuruJ3M4H??? Why post and not explain what the fix was???

My expedition is doing the same thing. I got the ac in the front working again by messing with wire right under and to the right of the glove department. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the front ac started working again. I hoped that it would fix everything but today driving around it said the tank was empty again and that I was driving 0 mph. Got stuck in felt felt like 1st gear. Pulled over turned it off and restarted and it ran fine again. Same issues. However I did notice when I unplugged the cable from underneath, one of the terminals looked kinda burnt out so my next step is to try and replace that and go from there. Hope that helps someone. Want to say the plug is the module something or other but I'm not 100 on that

I replaced the wiring under the glove box and that worked for my front ac only. The seats still cut out and everything else is still acting up. Someone please help

The problem is a sensor. There is a bulletin put out by ford for this.
I have looked and looked, do you have a link for the bulletin? Thanks for your help
