Honda Odyssey Windows and Doors Open on Their Own
Asked by JBJJJ Aug 22, 2016 at 01:32 PM about the 2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L FWD
Question type: General
My Honda's doors and windows open on
their own. This is not an issue of
accidentally click on buttons on the key
fob. It has happened when my key fob was
sitting in a bureau drawer. The most recent
solution/answer I've found is that there
may be a problem with the driver's side
lock getting gunk in it and allowing a fault
to open the doors or windows. I've
sprayed the lock innards with WD40 and
so far it hasn't happened again. Note:
unlike others my issue includes the doors
opening. What I don't understand is that
this is a programmable device so why
won't Honda let us reprogram the key fob?

There are several possible sources of this problem: 1. Your key fob itself, 2. Your car door lock (the only physical lock on your car), 3. The car's computer, and 4. Operator error. The solutions to try are 1. Have the chip in both of your keys changed, 2. Squirt WD4 into the lock several times and use the key to work the lubricant in, 3. Have the computer chip tested and replaced if needed, and 4. Make a cover for our fob out or aluminum or some other thin, hard material. Unfortunately, Honda generally only recognizes user error, i.e. that the buttons on your key fob were pressed accidentally while in your pocket or purse. It does happen, but in my case and many others the doors, windows, liftgate, sunroof, and so on have all opened when the key was in a location such as a drawer or was hundreds of miles away. So there is clearly an element of component failure. It is too bad. My dealership only responded when I threw a fit in their service dept. and, when I asked to talk to a Honda service rep, they insisted that it wasn't possible. So HONDA, if you are out there, talk to me, because the dealership is blocking you from getting feedback.
My 2011 Pilot does the same thing.
Everything has opened, so far, except the lift gate. Side door opened, today, while I was 7 minutes in CPA's office getting tax return!
My van-sometimes doors would catch and not close. Now, doors are opening by themselves in the middle of the night!!! I am told by dealership, there is no recall for this issue! Honda!!! We pay too much for a van to have these kinds of issues!!!
I did also recently get a "new key" and fob so I wonder if that is part of the problem
I have a Honda Odyssey 2012 EX-L and the trunk is opening and shutting, opening and shutting all by itself. I am not pressing any buttons. At first I thought this was related to condensation because we've had a lot of rain lately, but tonight it is completely dry and doing the same thing. I have checked for items possibly obstructing its close and nothing. How much does it cost to replace key fob or computer chip replacement? This is draining my battery too. Had to get a jump recently. Please help!
I just took the batteries out of the fobs, and unconnected the car battery to try to see if it was electric or just tricky
Our 2006 odyssey does this only in winter weather. Last year it opened during a blizzard. Anyway to disable auto slide doors?
