Gasket problem, coolant

Asked by Guru3SPSK Jul 07, 2020 at 11:59 PM about the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta SE with Conv and Sunroof

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys, I have a 2013 Jetta, started off with a coil misfire, got that replaced. Then coolant began to leak, I'm assuming as it disappears. Muffler does let out white smoke and I believe water or coolant is leaking from muffler. HELP! I was told head gasket needs to be replaced.

yes, If you buy a used car or have a private party purchase I would actually have the compression ration checked out before I dump a bunch of money into it. At the same time you can check for coolant leaks. Secondly, car is not new over 5 years, you could have a crack in the block. When you have a crack in block your coolant will vanish on you and go out with the exhaust. I had the gasket replaced so I wouldn't have to replace the coil. I had oil going into my plug well and interfere with spark because you have so much oil pressure in the block it want to seek path of least resistance. But that's because I bought from a garage where I knew the owner personally and lost the gamble of getting that gasket replaced. If you are having head gasket issues you will have water beads on your dipstick. It's common to have condensation leaking from you tailpipe. good luck

I might add, while I was on my trip in southern Idaho, I actually went to the dealer to get the job done on a Monday and they told me that the guy to get the job done was back in 3 days. That's telling me for a job that is that simple, that they didn't want the job because they are making enough money off of sales, lease, etc. So, I had to start talking to people in the area about who they would trust in town and so forth. The shop I finally got to town tried to tell me that I needed to buy 4 coil and I told them absolutely NOT!! Why would I buy 4 coil when the only problem was the gasket and oil leaking through it!! Don't get shammed when you are out traveling out on the road. I bought one coil from that shop and demanded the old coil in the seat in a baggie. They did just that and the I drove ALL the way home 400 miles just fine with my baby no less.
