97 dodge dakota crankshaft sensor???

Asked by td5676 Feb 18, 2014 at 02:51 PM about the 1997 Dodge Dakota Sport RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

on my 97 dodge dakota v6 3.9 check engine came on went to autozone to have them
scan fr codes it came back bad crankshaft sensor, the next day i barely made it home
when i got to the freeway i hit the gas to accelerate and it sputtered constantly and did
not want to go, almost like when you run out of gas, later i tried it, it was alright and
can be driven very short distance. does this sound like the crankshaft sensor??? i dont
want to repair the wrong thing.  thankns so much.  tanya5676@live.com

just because the code said the crank sensor is bad it could be the wiring or the pcm, because you say it runs good cold the crank sensor is cheaper than the pcm or to diag the wiring, I would replace the sensor.

My DD was doing the same thing. If i throw in neutral, turn engine off and back on, it worked fine ...until it did it again which is not that often. never figured out what it was.

Low Voltage can cause this as well. I have had the same code every time my battery was about to die. After I put in the new battery in. the code didn't come back for a bout 7 years. new battery time again.
