Oil usage

I would press Audi for a new engine but they will probably tell you to pound sand. You may be able to use a heavier weight oil to reduce the problem should you keep the car. An Audi is a very poor choice for a retirement car if you have limited means.

Our 2013 Q5 has oil consumption issue at 67,111 miles ( About 1 quart every 800 miles) . Extended warranty company refuses to cover Oil Consumption so our service advisor reached out to Audi and they will repair it for $2100. I guess they are supplying the parts and we're covering the Labor. We're only doing this because we just put in brakes, and CV Joints for about $4000. Also motor mounts went but extended warranty company covered that. After reading some posts we will be looking for new SUV before something more major goes wrong. We only have about 2800 more miles to goes on a very inadequate mileage limit of 70,000 miles. Disappointing.

I have a Lexus Nx200t that I like. CX 5 would also now be on the list now that it has a 250hp engine available. BMW X3 could also be on the list but haven't researched their issues. My Brother in law had a 660 sport coupe and he got rid of it after 2 years because of the same 1 quart every 1000 miles issue. I guess you can't get everything for $80K anymore.

Had a 2014 Q5 that started consuming oil at 65000 miles. escalated to a quart every 500 miles. Did the oil consumption tests at Audi Allentown who ripped me off for $140 each time and of course the car failed. Audi was willing to pick up 4500 of the $5500 tab. But they only guarantee the pistons and rings, nothing else !! so after the engine is removed, stripped, rebuilt and placed back in the car, they will cover other issues, IF it can be traced back to the repair. Audi of America listened to my complaint, but wouldn't budge. Audi of Allentown refused to go further. Best advice, dump the Audi and go with another brand. Audi cannot solve this ten year old problem and refuses to own up to it.

2014 Audi Q5. Worst car I ever owned. Issue after issue. Oils consumption, codes coming up, transmission shifting harsh when cold, headlight getting moisture, mirrors stopped folding/unfolding..........First and last Audi.

I think a class action for the Q5 oil issue should be done here in Australia we are all getting screwed over... 2011 Q5 just hit 80000km and it’s basically as useful as a brick

I have a very well maintained Audi Q5 2013, that started burning oil around 65K miles. I went to Audi Chantilly for service and they did some parts recalls. The engine light kept popping up and every time it was few hundred dollars here and there. Finally one day when I started it, it blew huge white smoke in the garage, kept on doing it. After another trip to a local mechanic shop, it doesn't blow smoke at normal cruise but the moment you accelerate it, the smoke starts coming even from the AC blower. Final verdict is that the engine is dead. Been told to dump is at around $5000 which a local dealer is giving but that means I lost almost $30K in 4 years that I have owned it and spending on its high maintenance. There should be a class action against these guys, its a big rip off.

Purchased 2014 Audi Q5 brand new in 2014. Easy driver, now with 100K miles. Always serviced/oil/filter changes at local Audi dealership. Started to notice uncommon oil consumption at approximately 80k miles. Dealer recommended we replace the valve cover gasket (sorry for any tech term misuse here). But, I have never noticed any oil on the garage floor, oil burning smell, or smoke from under hood. The new gasket was installed with 98k miles. I have since added 3 quarts of oil. I have taken the car back into the service department once a week for 4 weeks. They just can’t seem to figure out what the issue is and have asked that we just keep bringing it back every time the low oil light comes on – as part of their continuing “diagnosis”. OK – Am I just being played here? I am certain they are well aware of the oil consumption issue. With that being said, I am on the side of the isle that claims the “Audi oil consumption” issue has NOT been resolved. In addition, back when we bought the car, we really had no idea nor had heard of any oil consumption issue or class action law suit (bad on me). We did buy the Audi Pure Protection Extended Service Plan. Although, they cover their bases here also in the section covering “Exclusions” – want to take a guess what is excluded….? You guessed it…. “The correction of oil consumption”.

If you are using ethanol gas and burning oil read my story below and consider not using ethanol gas to eliminate oil consumption.My 2015 Audi Q5 has 75K miles. It never burned oil and I never used ethanol gas. Then I tried a low cost 10% ethanol premium. and soon got the low oil warning and had to add 1 qt. I then got the oil changed and it consumed 0.4 qt in 1000 miles. I topped the oil off. I only got the one tank of 10% ethanol and went back to premium non ethanol. Since the oil was topped off I have driven 1200 miles. Oil level stays at max, I suspect the ethanol gas was cleaning the cylinders and allowing seepage through the cleaned clearances.

Does anyone know if the 2016 Audi Q5 3.0T has a problem with oil consumption. Thank you
