My car engine

Asked by Noa26777 Dec 06, 2016 at 04:00 PM about the 1989 Honda Civic CRX 2 Dr HF Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my brother was driving my car in the winter and he
forgot to fill it with coolant and the engine head cracked, so
I'm just wondering if I need to replace the entire engine or if
there's just a small repair to be done?

A cracked cylinder is no small repair. Are you sure the head is cracked or could the head gasket be blown? How many miles on this Honda?

If it is just the cylinder head you can replace it (if cracked) or repair if just the head gasket, Pull it off and have a shop do a pressure test, if it passes then have it resurfaced and purchase the upper engine gasket kit from felpro and let the shop rebuild it (they need some of those parts from felpro too) and reinstall (using the new gaskets) with a new timing belt if yours is near the 60k miles since last timing belt change.
