Car has problems staying on.

I bought the car from a woman that had the engine rebuild but was never able to get it started. I decided to rebuild the engine myself seance I wasn't really sure what they had done to it. After everything was said and done I got the car stated as if I was putting my foot on the pedal then it died. I have checked everything and cant seem to find the problem.
